3. Heron of Alexandria dealt with the division of surfaces and solids in the third book of his Surveying (μετρικά). Although the enunciations of the propositions in this book are, as a whole, similar to those in Euclid's book On Divisions, Heron's discussion consists almost entirely of "analyses" and approximations.
